Once again does roar the thunder
Once again pours down the rain
Once again does the world wonder
Is it the time when you end our pain?
Once again filled is the breeze
In those melodius tunes divine
And restless am I to flow in ease
Amongst the waves of joy prestine
Once again does the world await
To get a glance of the innocent smile
The smile too rare, the smile too great
The smile mysitifying, yet too agile
Once again are the earthen pots
Filled up with milk and butter
As we wait for you mischievious lot
To see you steal them without any clutter
Adorned with your peacock quill
Come O Lord with a flute in hand
O carrier of joy, peace and goodwill
Come again to embrace this land…
A Very Happy Janmashtami to all of you.
Krishna, one of the most beloved characters of Hindu Mythology was born on this day. May he reside in our hearts forever…
Dedicated to him is this beautiful music on his own musical instrument… The Flute… Enjoy…

Happy Janmashtami to you Arindam.
I get the Krishna bhakti of course, but what is the significance of ‘1742’?
August 28, 2013 at 4:40 pm
Thank you and same to you…
1742? What’s that?
August 28, 2013 at 5:05 pm
When I got this post in my email it wasn’t called “Once Again” it was “1742”.
August 28, 2013 at 5:07 pm
Oh… I once posted it without a title (by mistake) So I guess WordPress have it a default title 🙂

Seeing Vivekananda’s picture and the quote from your “As Great People Say” page reminded me of that excellent series of “Thus Spake …” booklets from the Ramakrishna Math that you could get for Rs2 each (1980s price) from railway station bookshops all over India.
Thus Spake …
Sri Ramakrishna
Holy Mother
Vivekananda
Vedas
The Buddha
Sri Rama
Sri Krishna
Sri Sankara
Christ
Prophet Muhammad
Guru Nanak
Zarathustra
They fit in even small pockets and are great for just dipping into for inspirational quotes.
You can probably guess that my copy of ‘Thus Spake Sri Sankara’ is the most beat up of the bunch.
Can you still get them in India?
August 28, 2013 at 4:41 pm
Yup, we still do… And they are still cheap 🙂

August 28, 2013 at 8:03 pm
Very Happy Janmashtami to you…. I hope I have spelled it right !
Very lovely musical Instrumental words….. Beautiful as usual …. You are a Guru of poetry 😛
You told me the story before that is why I understood some things in this poetry…..
I just Love the concept of Matki and Makhan 😉
Love the pictures too 🙂 Which one is the one you took from your room ?
And May I ask why all these Gods are Blue ? They were blue when they existed in real too ?
And I can’t hear the music again 😦
August 28, 2013 at 8:37 pm
Thank you and same to you… (yes you spelled it right:))
Yeah the details of the poetry require you to know the story… But don’t worry you would get there…
The first one is from my room… the one where he is portrayed as a child and is shown eating maakhan.
Music ka intezaam kar deta hoon, mail karke… (Kisne youtube pe ban lagaya? How can a mordern day youth live without youtube? :P)
Why are all these gods blue?
First of all they are all the portrayals of the same god… Krishna. Now, in real life Krishna was black (dark) in colour (hence the name Krishna meaning black).
However portraying a god to be black is something people are not too comfortable with… so they portray him blue mostly. (BTW in one of the pictures displayed here, he is shown to be black)
Just another piece of info… (to portray his naughtiness) Krishna’s lover Radha is extremely fair in colour (Also shown in one of the pics). So when he was a kid, he asks his mother, “Why is he dark and Radha fair?”. His mother smiles and says “The fair Radha wears black Kajal… Through which she has done black magic (kala jaadoo) on you… That’s why you are black” 😉

Hey, don’t start me and Arindam off on that one or the next thing you know I’ll be telling him my theory that Krishna was actually one of the last leaders of the Indus Valley civilisation.
August 28, 2013 at 9:17 pm
Well… Might very well be possible… So what’s your theory? 🙂 Oh wait… Let us wait for White pearl for her consent… Else she might get lost in this discussion… (She has had too much of Hindu Mythology today I guess) 😛

August 29, 2013 at 6:43 am
Thanks for the wonderful comments 🙂
August 29, 2013 at 12:22 am
Also not sure..but at least for me I can upload any song to MP3 I own and put it in word press if you want to show White Pearl what this sounds..like…but I think you have to own the song first on CD before to convert it to MP3 for this..I sure hope that too is not censored in Pakistan…I don’t think it is…maybe you are already doing this from your comment above? if so that is good…I think…the music is very beautiful…and may use it somewhere in my blog too..in the future..as well..
August 29, 2013 at 6:50 am
Don’t worry… the necessary has been done… and the music has reached White Pearl 🙂

September 7, 2013 at 11:29 pm
Hey will you tell me what this event is about? I know Holi and Diwali, but have heard this name for the first time.
And ofcourse I had no music too 😉
September 8, 2013 at 3:42 pm
Okay… Janmashtami is believed to be the birthday of Sri Krishna (one of the incarnations of Vishnu – the preserver of the world). According to the mythology, he was born on a night with heavy thunder and rain (its monsoon time in India now). So on this day, we basically worship the child-form of Krishna… In our homes, a cradle (jhoola) is made on which we place the idol of Krishna and worship him…
That was about the religious part… From the festival side… one of the most popular events that is organised is called matki-phod (breaking the clay pot). The legend says that Krishna and his friends were fond of butter (maakhan) and hence used to steal it from their neighbours, Now as maakhan is stored in clay pots hung from the ceiling, these kids used to make a human pyramid to reach out to the pots, break it and have the butter.
The same event is played as a sport on this day (as a competitions). Clay pots are hung as high as 4-5 storeys and groups of youngsters try to reach the pot and break them by making human pyramids…
Regarding the music… I can send it to you too…
September 8, 2013 at 9:49 pm
Oh I see. Good to know about the festivities and celebrations that you do, the makhan story is equally fascinating.
My next-door neighbors are Hindu too, so we have been acquainted with few customs. The colorful circles and diyas on Diwali and wishing eachother on respective festivals have been routine..
September 8, 2013 at 9:55 pm
Wonderful! Good to know about it… Sending you the music just now… Sorry… I forgot 😛
September 8, 2013 at 10:51 pm
